24th Annual San Marcos River Clean-Up:
March 7, 2009 - San Marcos, TX
On Saturday, March 7th, folks from all over Texas will be participating in the world's longest river clean up. We will be picking up trash along the entire length of the San Marcos River (approximately 90 miles). Everyone is encouraged to participate in some way. City of Kyle - Steeplechase Park & Creek Clean-Up:

Once a year the City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Dept. organizes a "Steeplechase Park & Creek Clean-Up Day". This event includes projects such as picking trash out of the creek, removing dead trees, painting, planting, and general cleaning. This event is co-sponsored by the State of Texas's "Keep Texas Beautiful" program. This event is open to Scout Troups, Church Groups, Home Owners Associations, School Groups and Clubs, Environmental Organizations, Sports Teams and Clubs and anyone willing to help. July 19, 2008 - Texas Stream Team Volunteer Recognition Event
In honor of your dedication to Texas Stream Team (formerly Texas Watch) and Aquarena Center, please join us on Saturday, July 19, for the River Systems Institute’s 2008 Volunteer Recognition Event! You and your family are invited to participate in a fun day of free activities, lunch, and a special recognition ceremony at Aquarena Center in San Marcos, followed by optional recreational activities in and around the beautiful San Marcos River.
Take a guided tour of Aquarena Center … Explore the Spring Lake environs on a guided nature tour … Traverse the lake itself on a guided canoe tour … Ride the famous Aquarena glass bottom boats … Spend a leisurely afternoon tubing on the San Marcos River! A detailed schedule of all these events and more can be found on the attached Reservation Form. But most of all… come, meet others, and let us recognize all of you for your ongoing efforts in protecting the water resources of Texas!

June 23 - July 15, 2008 - The Great North American Secchi Dip-In: The Dip-In is an annual event sponsored by Kent State University. Volunteers from all over the US (and even the world) take a secchi reading during this time. Bob Carlson, a professor at Kent State, who came up with the Trophic State Index (TSI), analyzes the data at a national level to look for trends. April 5, 2008 - Volunteer Bacteria Monitor Training - Texas State Aquarium Sea Lab - 10:00 am - 12:30 pm. Texas Stream Team is offering a training for those interested in becoming a certified water quality monitor. The bacteriological program teaches monitors to collect E. coli data which is beneficial to better understand human health issues associated with recreation. April 20, 2008 - 2nd Annual Earth Day Festival - Aquarena Center - 12:00-7:00 pm
In keeping with the Common Experience theme, the focus of the activities will be water. The event is free to the public and will include educational activities for all ages; recycling and green building displays; live music entertainment; food and vendor booths; nature-based entertainment; and blessing of the Springs. Texas Stream Team will host an environmental education booth featuring the watershed model.

The purpose of this meeting is to offer stakeholders an opportunity to provide input on water issues in the Sabine Basin. You are encouraged to attend to provide input on the water issues in your area!
