TES

TEACHING ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

Teaching Environmental Sciences (TES) is an environmental education graduate course for K-12 teachers offered at universities around the state and emphasizing the importance of air, water, and waste issues which affect their communities' environmental and economic health.

The Geography Department at Texas State University offers a TES workshop, in cooperation with Texas Stream Team and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Ours is a ten-day hands-on course full of activities, presentations, and field trips.

Texas State's course is designed to provide K-12 teachers with "real world" critical thinking skills and problem solving for instructing their students on local environmental issues. Teachers receive education materials from a variety of sources, along with materials that support the TAAS (Texas Assessment of Academic Skills) and TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills).
