Mr. Mendelman, Texas Stream Team's Program Director, oversees the Texas Stream Team statewide volunteer monitoring and education network funded through the Federal Clean Water Act and implemented through a collaborative partnership between the Environmental Protection Agency-Region 6, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and Texas State University-San Marcos. Mr. Mendelman came to Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) in 1991 as the Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) Partner Coordinator. In 1997 he was promoted to Texas Watch(Texas Stream  Team) Leader and from 1998-1999, he was Team Leader for the Quality Assurance and Fiscal Monitoring Program. When Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) moved to Texas State University in 1999, Mr. Mendelman became the Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) Program Coordinator in the Texas State Department of Geography. In 2006, Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) moved to the River Systems Institute (RSI) where he joined the RSI staff as Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) Director. Prior to his work with Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team), Mr. Mendelman directed grassroots election and issue campaigns for Clean Water Action, a national, state and local non-profit organization (1985-1991). Mr. Mendelman graduated from Harvard University in 1982 with a degree in Government and spent the 3 years leading to his work with Clean Water Action traveling in Europe, working a variety of jobs from restaurant work, County Constable, and real estate agent. It was a series of internships with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Annapolis, Maryland and Environmental Action in Washington, DC that reinforced Mr. Mendelman’s commitment to a career in environmental work.

Terry Wendland has over 20 years of experience with administrative management and support in both the private sector and state government.  Terry has worked for Texas State University for 12 years, since 1995.  Terry has been with Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) since 2000.

Dr. Julie Tuason

Julie Tuason has a Ph.D. in environmental geography from Rutgers University. She has taught on the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin and Southwest Texas State University. Since the mid-1980s, she has helped to design and implement K-12 educational outreach programs for the National Geographic Society and the National Council for Geographic Education. She has taught college level courses in conservation and environmental management and published articles on parks and protected areas, among a range of other topics. Julie has been with Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) since 2005. In the environmental education arena, she is interested in differences in student learning styles and how to effectively move citizens from environmental awareness to active environmental stewardship.

Heidi Moltz

Heidi Moltz began working at Texas Watch (Texas Stream Team) in April of 2007. Heidi’s area of interest and expertise is identifying critical areas for non-point source pollution management and controlling pollution using land management techniques. Heidi received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas – Austin. After completion, Heidi moved to the Midwest to pursue her Master of Science in water resources management from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Heidi’s M.S. research focus was on the design and implementation of vegetative riparian buffers to control agricultural pollution. Heidi returned to Texas in 2005 to pursue doctoral studies in the aquatic resources program at Texas State University. Her professional experience includes working for local and state government, private industry, and non-profit organizations.

Josh Oyer

After working as an intern at Texas Stream Team during the spring 2008 semester, Josh graduated from Texas State University-San Marcos with a B.S. in Geography concentrating on urban and regional planning. Upon graduation, Josh was hired to work full-time with Texas Stream Team.  His work mainly focuses on data analysis for a Rio Grande project, as well as assisting in leading volunteer water quality monitoring trainings.
